The match 67 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, featuring the bottom-ranked Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), was widely seen as inconsequential. The Super Giants needed a remarkable performance to have any chance at the fourth spot, while also relying on the RCB-CSK game to either end in a CSK victory or a narrowly permissible loss. Despite, the win the LSG have officially be crashed out of the IPL along with Mumbai Indians (MI) who have had a miserable tournament as they finished at the bottom of the table.

Let us quickly look at the highlight from the LSG and MI game;

Nicolas Pooran storm help LSG post a formidable first innings score

MI won the toss and chose to field first. LSG had a shaky start, losing their opener Devdutt Padikkal early. KL Rahul steadied the innings with a crucial half-century. Nicholas Pooran’s blistering 75 off 29 balls helped LSG set a challenging target of 215. Nicholas Pooran was relentless, attacking every MI bowler. He particularly targeted the young Arjun, capitalizing on two full tosses and sending them into the stands.

Naman Dhir was the lone warrior for Mumbai Indians

In the run chase, MI had a solid start, unlike LSG, and didn’t lose any wickets during the powerplay, scoring 53 runs. By the 13th over, MI was ahead of LSG’s pace, with both teams at 115/3. Rohit Sharma, who scored 68 off 38 balls, fell in the 11th over.

This could potentially be his final innings for MI amid rumors of him moving to another franchise next season. Naman Dhir’s explosive maiden IPL fifty came too late, as his 62 off 28 balls, featuring four fours and five sixes, wasn’t enough. MI concluded their disappointing campaign with just four wins in 14 games.

 For LSG, Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi shone, while pacers Mohsin Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq were expensive but managed to take one and two wickets, respectively. Despite their 18-run victory, LSG couldn’t secure a playoff spot but ended their season on a positive note. A win in any of their last three games, excluding the MI match, would have made their season even better.
