Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clashed in Match 64 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, each eager to secure a vital win and reignite their dwindling playoff aspirations. However, chasing 209 runs for victory, LSG’s batting lineup faltered, with three of their top four batters dismissed for single-digit scores.

Nicolas Pooran’s knock of 61 runs, supported by all-rounder Arshad Khan’s impressive 58, provided some hope for LSG. Despite their efforts, the team fell short by 19 runs. Arshad Khan’s exceptional innings, comprising 58 runs off 33 balls with three fours and five towering sixes, was a highlight. His remarkable performance brought LSG closer to the target, marking his first half-century in the tournament.

Delhi Capitals post a total of 208 batting first

The home team after being asked to bat first, set an impressive target of 208 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Rishabh Pant returned to lead the team after serving a one-match suspension. Meanwhile, LSG made some alterations to their lineup, with KL Rahul winning the toss and choosing to bat first to improve their net run rate. David Warner was omitted, while Gulbadin Naib made a comeback for DC.

Arshad Khan struck early for LSG by dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk with his second legal delivery. Abishek Porel’s explosive innings, including a quick fifty, bolstered DC’s score. Ravi Bishnoi removed Shai Hope, but Porel continued to dominate until Naveen-ul-Haq claimed his wicket. Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs then accelerated the run rate, with Stubbs finishing strong with a rapid 57 off 25 balls. Despite losing wickets, DC managed to breach the 200-run mark, ending their innings on a high note.
