The Indian women’s cricket team is currently hosting South Africa for a multi-format series from June 16 to July 9. The series begins with the first of three One-Day Internationals at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, followed by a one-off, four-day red-ball Test match and three Twenty20 Internationals, all in Chennai.

In the opening ODI of the series, Smriti Mandhana achieved a significant milestone by completing 7000 international runs, becoming only the second Indian woman to reach this landmark after Mithali Raj.

Smriti Mandhana’s milestone

This truly marks the era of Smriti Mandhana, as the left-handed batter continues to dominate international cricket. Mandhana, one of the cornerstones of the Indian women’s team, reached this illustrative milestone in the first ODI at Bangalore. Her career statistics are impressive, with approximately 133 T20s, 83 ODIs, and 6 Tests under her belt.

In the One Day format alone, she has aggregated over 3300 runs, including 27 half-centuries and three centuries. Notably, Mandhana was the first Indian batter to score a century against South Africa in Women’s One Day Internationals, achieving this feat on February 7, 2018, with a remarkable 135 runs off 129 balls.

A remarkable journey

Smriti Mandhana’s journey in international cricket has been nothing short of enthralling. She made her debut in the T20 format against Bangladesh in 2013, where she was India’s highest scorer with 39 off 36 balls, leading her team to victory by 10 runs. Less than a week later, she made her Test and ODI debuts, marking the beginning of an illustrious career.
