Australia registered a convincing win by 39 runs over Oman at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados in the tenth match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Marcus Stoinis stepped up with both the bat and the ball and helped Australia win in the Australia vs Oman match.

Oman won the toss and opted to bowl first. They got off to a flying start as they successfully put pressure on the opponents. David Warner and Travis Head got off to a slow start before Bilal Khan provided the first breakthrough. He dismissed Head for a mere 10-ball 12. After his dismissal, Mitchell Marsh joined Warner in the middle but he got out for a slow knock of 14 off 21.

His stay was cut short by Mehran Khan in the 9th over only. His dismissal brought Glenn Maxwell in the middle but Mehran Khan struck again as he removed him on a golden duck. And, Australia were reduced to 50 for 3 in 8.3 overs. After that, Marcus Stonis joined Warner in the middle. Both tried to build a partnership. While Warner held the one end, Stoinis’ onslaught brought Australia back into the game.

Stoinis took time initially. He scored 11 runs in the first 15 balls but changed his gear and smashed 55 runs in the next 20 balls. Later, while Warner played the anchor’s role perfectly with 56 off 51, Stoinis’ unbeaten 67 off 36 with 2 fours and 6 sixes guided Australia to a decent total of 164 for 5 in 20 overs.

While chasing, Oman lost both their openers Kashyap Prajapati and Pratik Athavale got out for single-digit scores. Aqib Ilyas held one end whereas they lost two more wickets in between, courtesy of Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc. However, Ayaan Khan (36 off 30) and Mehran Khan (27 off 16) tried to steady the ship in the middle.

While Ayaan hit 2 fours and as many sixes, Mehraan too hit two sixes as well. However, a lack of support from others saw them manage to score 125 runs in their allotted 20 overs as well. Marcus Stoinis shone with the ball too, claiming 3 wickets for 19 runs. Starc, Ellis and Zampa also claimed 2 wickets each.

Marcus Stoinis, who won the Player of the Match said after the game: “Nice start, we got the win and boys spent some time in the middle and everyone got to bowl. I was trying to soak up the conditions and keep it simple. Couple kept low and couple were spinning for the spinners. It seemed like swing wasn’t available, and I was trying to get some bounce with cross-seam deliveries.”
