Ever since the IPL (Indian Premier League) was introduced the tournament has witnessed some of the most thrilling moments. Every season has brought an air of excitement and surprises.

In addition to this, every IPL season has witnessed new records being created and old records broken but few records look like they won’t be broken as they look like an impossible task at the moment.

In this piece, we take a look at five such records that will remain unbroken for many years in the history of the tournament.

1 Chris Gayle’s 175 against Rising Pune Supergiants in 2013

“The Universal Boss” as he is fondly called played a cracking knock smashing the Pune Supergiants bowlers out of the park at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on the 23rd of April 2013 with his destructive yet effortless power.

The 42-year-old Jamaican hit 17 sixes and 13 fours scoring 175 in 66 balls with a strike rate of 265.15 helping Royal Challengers Bangalore score 263/5 in 20 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 130 runs.

2 Virat Kohli’s Finest IPL Season In 2016

The former India skipper not only led the side skipper but also led the batting order. The 35-year-old scored four centuries in that season scoring 975 runs in 16 IPL games at a strike rate of 152.03.

Virat Kohli became the first batter to rack up four centuries in one season and the record is still intact. His exceptional performance with the bat helped Royal Challengers Bangalore reach the final where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 runs.

3 Royal Challengers Bangalore 49 All Out Against Kolkata Knight Riders In 2017

Chasing a total of 131, Royal Challengers Bangalore batters struggled against Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling outfit as the team was bowled out for 49 which is the lowest total in the history of IPL. No batter for Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to score in double digits which was quite surprising.

4 Chris Gayle’s 37 Runs In One Over In 2011

When it comes to breaking records more consistently no one can match Chris Gayle. The 42-year-old smashed 37 runs in a single over against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The bowler was Prasahth Parmeshwaram. The left-hander scored 44 runs in 16 balls hitting four sixes and three boundaries in that over.

5 Chennai Super Kings Qualifies 9 Times For The Play Off Matches

Arguably one of the most consistent teams in the IPL as far as the winning percentage is concerned, the MS Dhoni-led side is also the most successful team to qualify for the playoffs the most number of times. Although the team has won the IPL title 3 times it has qualified for the playoffs 9 times.
