The Delhi Capitals clinched a thrilling one-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore, securing their place in the playoffs of the WPL 2024 for the second consecutive season. The match was marked by a late surge from Richa Ghosh, who scored a blistering 51 runs off just 29 deliveries, keeping the Royal Challengers in contention until the final ball. However, the Capitals managed to maintain their nerve under pressure, with Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey’s partnership proving vital in propelling Delhi to a challenging total.
Having won the toss, the Delhi Capitals opted to bat first, pinning their hopes on Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma to provide a strong start. The opening pair didn’t disappoint, forging a solid 50-run partnership for the first wicket, setting the stage for a formidable innings. Despite losing Shafali and Lanning in quick succession, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey took charge, aggressively taking on the Royal Challengers’ bowling attack.
As the innings progressed, Jemimah’s exceptional form became apparent as she accelerated the scoring, reaching her fifty off just 26 balls. Capsey joined in the onslaught, ensuring the Capitals surpassed the 150-run mark by the 17th over. Despite a brief interruption in the run flow caused by Shreyanka’s bowling, Capsey’s aggressive batting in the penultimate over helped Delhi post a challenging total of 181 runs.
In response, the Royal Challengers Bangalore found themselves slightly behind the required run-rate early in their innings. Despite Richa Ghosh’s valiant effort to keep her team in the hunt with her aggressive batting, including several boundaries and a six, it wasn’t enough to secure victory for RCB. Delhi Capitals’ disciplined bowling attack, combined with their determined fielding, ultimately led them to a thrilling one-run win, cementing their position at the top of the table in the WPL 2024.
