According to new reports about BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, he is dissatisfied that members of the BCCI panel and officials have asked him to step down as his term comes to an end. Since his appointment in 2019, Ganguly has performed admirably as the BCCI President. After playing in the first-ever WTC final during his tenure, the Indian cricket team reached new heights in Test cricket.
Sourav Ganguly’s replacement could be Roger Binny:
Sourav Ganguly, one of India’s greatest captains, is set to step down as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Roger Binny, who won the 1983 World Cup and took the most wickets during that tournament, will take over as president. However, not everything went according to plan when the former Bengal star left the BCCI.
As has been the practice over the years at the BCCI, Ganguly did not suggest Binny, the most likely incoming president, the name of the former fast bowler.
“He looked upset, disappointed, and dejected,”
claimed a few BCCI officials who were present during the meeting. Ganguly was the last one who left the office after the meeting ended.
The position of IPL Chairman was offered to Sourav Ganguly:
The position of “Chairman of the IPL” was offered to Sourav Ganguly. However, given that this position is below that of “President of the BCCI” in terms of importance, Ganguly has every right to be a little bit upset about what has transpired. Ganguly is a genuine superstar and a man of immense face value. As an individual, he endorses several brands. The same did not go over well with the board. Some of the brands that Ganguly supports are sometimes at odds with or competitors to those that the BCCI as an organisation supports. Due to this, there may be a conflict of interest, which could result in sponsors dropping out.
“Roger Binny has filed nomination for president’s post, myself for the vice-president’s post, Jay Shah for secretary, Ashish Shelar for treasurer and Devajit Saikia has filed nomination for joint secretary’s post. Arun Dhumal will head the IPL governing council and Abhishek Dalmiya will be part of that council. Khairul Jamal (Mamun) Majumdar will be part of the Apex council. As of now, these are the nominations and all are unopposed.”
