Shikhar Dhawan (40 off 68) and skipper K L Rahul (30 off 46), both seasoned openers, would both be upset at not being able to capitalise on their starts.
Gill displayed control throughout the innings by primarily relying on fours to keep his innings moving along. Even though he only had one six, it only took him 85 balls to reach the century. Finally, he was caught for 130 (15x4s, 1x6s).
Gill also broke Sachin Tendulkar‘s record for the highest individual score for India in ODIs played in Zimbabwe with the tonne. Tendulkar achieved 127* points against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 1998. Gill now holds that record.
