The West Indies are back in the World Cup. Their last three years have been very poor but 2024 seems to be getting good. Shamar Joseph helped fetch a Test win at the Gabba while the T20 side looks pretty well settled with Andre Russell back in the mix.
Date: June 2nd, 2024
Time: 8:00 PM IST
Venue: Providence Stadium, Guyana
There are chances of rain early in the day with showers likely to pass through.
Teams are usually happier to bat first at Guyana. The track is on the slower side though and runs on the board could be a better option.
Johnson Charles, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, Andre Russell, Akeal Hossein, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie
Tony Ura, Sese Bau, Assad Vala, Lega Siaka, Charles Amini, Hiri Hiri, Kiplin Doriga, Norman Vanua, Alei Nao, John Kariko, Chad Soper
Charles Amini
Guyana is expected to keep slow. PNG though look like they only have one spinner in their ranks and that is where Charles Amini will have to make an impact. He is a handy batter as well and his all-round abilities will be key.
Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran has been in fine six hitting form this year. He was at his best in the IPL and is off to a good start in the World Cup Warm-ups as well.
West Indies are the in-form side and the bigger side and they start as clear favorites.
