With the two-match Test series concluded, New Zealand and Sri Lanka begin their three-match ODI series at Eden Park on Saturday afternoon. This series is part of the Cricket World Cup Super League with New Zealand already qualified for the 2023 World Cup whereas Sri Lanka need at least 15 more points. The series will have tremendous importance from a Lankan point of view as this will be their last chance to grab direct qualification for the ICC World Cup 2023. But the test series results will not relieve Tom Latham’s home side much, as they will be without the leading run-scorer, Kane Williamson (337 runs), and Devon Conway, due to IPL commitments.

New Zealand has been on top of their game at home. They haven’t lost an ODI since 2019. They have won 13 ODIs since then. Though New Zealand will be without the key players, they have enough firepower to keep their unbeaten streak of 5 ODIs against Sri Lanka to keep alive. On the other hand, Sri Lanka has everything to die for the results. Their World Cup qualification depends on the outcome. But they haven’t been good in this format. They have lost 4 of their last 5 games, including a 317-run defeat against India. Considering the team combination, New Zealand is expected to win this match.
