Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace spearhead, was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 with a stress fracture on Thursday, severely hurting the team’s chances of competing in the ICC event.
“Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,”
a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
According to news agency PTI, which cited BCCI sources, India’s top fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a stress fracture in his back. Because he “complained of back pain during India’s practice session,” Bumrah was unable to play in the first Twenty20 International of the series against South Africa on Wednesday. The Indian team, already without Ravindra Jadeja, is severely hurt by Bumrah’s absence from the T20 World Cup.
Due to a back injury, Bumrah also had to miss the 2022 Asia Cup. In the T20I series against Australia earlier this month, he returned to the Indian team and appeared in the second and third games.
For the T20 World Cup in Australia, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel were part of a four-man pace bowling attack that included the 28-year-old fast bowler. India are expected to select Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar, both of whom have been named standbys for the marquee tournament, to take Bumrah’s place now that he has been ruled out.
When all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury earlier this month, the Rohit Sharma-led Team India suffered yet another significant setback. Axar Patel, on the other hand, performed admirably in his absence in India’s most recent T20I matches against Australia and South Africa.
Additionally, Bumrah’s absence from the T20 World Cup is a significant setback for the BCCI, which has gone to great lengths to protect the Indian pacer.Bumrah has only played in three T20Is out of India’s 24 matches since they resumed play after the 2022 Indian Premier League. After the IPL, he played in six international matches for the team, including a Test and two One-Day Internationals (all against England).
