For WHITE BALL CRICKET, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering two distinct captains. This means that India’s ODI and T20 captains will be different. Sources have learned from high-ranking BCCI officials that the strategy will begin in January with a home series against Sri Lanka.

India will field separate captains for each of its three ODI and three T20 matches against Sri Lanka. Hardik Pandya will lead India in T20 matches, while Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the ODI team.

“It’s early to confirm this but yes we are mulling if appointing separate captains for ODI & T20 Squads is the right way. This will help in taking away the load from one person. We need fresh approach for T20’s and at the same time consistency in wake of ODI World CUP in India in 2023. The plan can come into play starting January. We will meet and take final calls.”,

informed a top BCCI official to InsideSport.

NEW YEAR – NEW Start Coming in for Indian Cricket

India is to play 3 ODI’s & 3 T20 match series vs Sri Lanka

Hardik Pandya is likely to be named permanent T20 captain in January, following the HOME series against New Zealand and Australia. In ODIs and TESTs, India will be led by Rohit Sharma.

Is it Demotion for Rohit Sharma?

The Indian team’s poor performance at the T20 World Cup will clearly cost Rohit Sharma his T20 captaincy due to the potential step of appointing two captains. However, when InsideSport asked the BCCI official the same question, “Will Rohit lose his captaincy as a result of the T20 World CUP debacle?”

“It’s not about losing captaincy. It’s about future and decreasing load for Rohit. See these guys are not getting any younger. We feel we need fresh approach and fresh legs for T20 Squad”,

added the official from the BCCI.

In the meantime, earlier on Saturday, another high-ranking BCCI official confirmed to sources that a PERFORMANCE REVIEW MEETING has been requested.

For the meeting, the BCCI will call coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and former skipper Virat Kohli. The BCCI Secretary will convene the meeting, at which the Indian team’s disastrous performance will be discussed and evaluated.

“We are calling them for a meeting. We are taken aback by what happened in the Semifinal, obviously changes are required. But no decision would be taken without hearing their side. Rohit, Rahul, Virat’s inputs will be taken and the future course of action for Indian T20 Squad will be taken“,

confirmed the top BCCI official to InsideSport.

India in the T20 World Cup: Indian Team Performance Review on the horizon?

Sources have information that indicates that the BCCI is also dissatisfied with the performance of the Selection Committee led by Chetan Sharma. Their performance will also be evaluated, and Chetan will almost certainly be replaced.

It is unclear whether the Performance Review meeting has also been scheduled for the Chairman of the Selection Committee.

Are seniors being excluded? In 2024, the West Indies and the United States host the T20 World Cup.The majority of the team’s veteran players, according to the BCCI, will eventually retire.

The BCCI official stated that TEAM INDIA, not the individuals, is their primary concern.

“We are not concerned about the individuals. They are capable to take their own calls. We are concerned about Indian cricket, team India. What happened against ENGLAND and what has been happening in KNOCKOUTS should stop. All our decision making will be done keeping this thing in mind on how to end this KNOCKOUT ROT”.

as per BCCI
