“I always breathe Cricket” – Kapil Dev once stated. In a recent interview with Veteran Sports journalist Ayaz Memon, Kapil dev expressed his desire about Indian all-rounders’ significance in the team.
Kapil Dev feels that India needs more all-rounders. Kapil, who himself was one of the best all-rounders of his time believes that they play a key role in enhancing the status of the team and the Indian team has a lot of potential all-rounders. They just need to focus and work harder to reach the desired quality. The all-rounders contribute immensely in the game and have a crucial role in deciding the future of the game. Adding on, he made an unusual suggestion for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma by expressing that both of them ‘don’t bowl at all’. He advised both Kohli and Sharma to transform themselves into all-rounders. While reasoning his opinion, the 1983 World-cup winning captain pointed out the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly as examples.
He believes that though India has talents like Ravindra Jadeja, Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya being all-rounders, from the past few years, there have seen very few names contributing with both bat as well as ball.
Kapil Dev’s dedication and passion for Cricket has made him a legend standing with all pride. The legend’s crucial role in winning the 1983 World cup is still fresh among Cricket enthusiasts. Now it is on Kohli and company whether they take the legend’s words into account or decide to go with the flow.
