With 23 players signed up during the Indian Premier League mega auction, the Delhi Capitals finished the competition with a 23-player squad. Stars like David Warner (making his return to the franchise), Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mustafizur Rahman were also added to Delhi’s roster. Ahead of the auction, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje remained with the franchise.

While Warner returns to the Delhi franchise after 9 years, many players from last season’s squad are not expected to be part of this year’s roster. Amit Mishra is one of them. He has been a member of the Capitals since 2015. While playing for DC from 2008-to 2010 and from 2015-to 2021, Mishra evolved into one of the league’s best spin bowlers. His 166 wickets in 154 matches are the third-most in IPL history. Mishra was one of many senior players who went unsold in Bengaluru’s mega auction, including Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, and Piyush Chawla, among others. After the auction in Bengaluru ended, Mishra maintained that he wasn’t yet “finished.”

In 2019, the Indian leg-spinner’s last national appearance had been in the Indian Premier League, and he had stopped playing domestic cricket since then. Mishra has played 22 Tests, 36 One-Day Internationals, and 10 Twenty20 Internationals for India. The last time he played for India was in a T20 against England in 2017.
