An ex-India all-rounder suggests Dhoni should bat in a different position at CSK

MS Dhoni has struggled with the bat during the last two IPL seasons, scoring only 314 runs from 30 games. Despite his 200 runs in IPL 2020, Dhoni accumulated only 114 runs the following year. Dhoni hasn’t scored a half-century in the last two seasons, but a cameo of 18 off 6 balls in IPL 2021 helped Chennai Super Kings win the Qualifier 1 game against Delhi Capitals.

Dhoni rolled back the years by hitting three fours off Avesh Khan for 13 off the last over. The CSK skipper was at his ‘finisher’ best but Reetinder Sodhi believes Dhoni’s golden years with the bat are over. Sodhi says CSK and Dhoni both benefit if Dhoni bats higher because his finishing skills are on the decline. ”Due to his diminished finishing skills, MS Dhoni has to bat higher in the order. Later, he can hit the lusty blows if he takes his time, comes in the 10th or 11th over. CSK’s prospects rely on MS Dhoni,” stated Sodhi during a recent interaction with the press.

”Ravindra Jadeja’s form is crucial. If he picks up form, he can take Chennai to the IPL final based on how he batted in the Mohali Test and how he bowled in the tournament. Dhoni, Jadeja, and Ravindra Jadeja all have a lot of responsibilities,” concluded Sodhi.
