Australia go head to head with Afghanistan in the penultimate game of Group 1 and Match 38 of the 2022 T20 World Cup on Friday evening in Adelaide. Australia must win this game to give themselves a chance of progressing to the semi-finals. Afghanistan are already eliminated but a win could see them qualify automatically for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Australia need to win this game by a large margin to increase their net-run-rate above New Zealand or England to qualify for the next stage. We expect to see a dominant Australia performance from the first ball. Afghanistan have been unfortunate with the rain, they have had two games washed out, but have been disappointing in their completed matches. A victory over the hosts and current T20 World Cup holders would be a big shock.

Afghanistan have produced the odd strong performance in IT20s this year but overall they have been disappointing. Australia have not been at their best either but can still produce excellent results when at 80% capacity. Although Afghanistan do still have something to play for in this clash, we expect Australia to be focused and determined to get a victory in Adelaide. Afghanistan have dangerous bowlers but we predict that Australia will dominate their batters. Overall we are predicting a win by a comfortable margin for Australia. Considering the team combination, Australia is expected to win this match.
