Lankans on Tuesday experienced a big win against South Africa by 78 runs by 2 -1.

With Sri Lanka winning the toss and elected to bat first, it was quite uncertain of them to win as their performance dropped off drastically in the first innings. However The Lankans managed to  score 203 for 9 in 50 overs with Asalanka (47) and Dushmantha Chamira (29) showcasing their key performance in the first innings. However things turned around in the second innings and odds were in favour of Sri Lanka when South Africa’s wicket started falling off drastically, who finished off  for 125 runs in 30 overs. South Africa’s spinners did quite a good job. In the first innings, Keshav Maharaj took 3 wickets for 38runs, while Tabraiz Shamsi and George Linde managed to take 2 wickets each, Aiden Markram too assisted them by taking a wicket. Debutante Maheesh who took 4 for 37  was a big acknowledgement, which is a record for a Sri Lanka spinner on debut. South Africa’s batters struggled to perform each time they faced the off-spin. He was accompanied by Chamira (2/16) and Hasaranga (2/32). Chamira won the ‘Player of the Match’ and Asalanka won the ‘Player of the Series’ awards.

This match in particular was quite unpredictable. Srilanka’s excellent bowling and fielding skills led them towards victory after a year and half. The last series Sri Lanka won against South Africa was in February 2020.
