At least three players and four staff members of the England cricket Squad tested positive for Covid-19, the England & Wales Cricket Board announced on Tuesday. With the current squad required to undergo quarantine as part of the Covid-19 protocols, the ECB (England Cricket Board) had to announce a change in the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan.
There are still many questions and confusion among the people, even if Giles claimed with confidence that no one among the England Cricket Squad nor Staff member broke or violated Protocols directions then what was the main reason behind the outbreak of the virus at the camp just before the upcoming one of the important series.
He also added that “The squad has been living under very tight restrictions. We haven’t gambled. I don’t believe we’ve gambled at all. We are fully aware of the risks and we are aware of the knife-edge that we are working on all the time,”
England’s next opponents, Pakistan, have been in managed isolation in Derby since arriving on June 25. The first ODI is due to take place in Cardiff on Thursday, with the ECB indicating there would be no changes to the schedule or ticketing arrangements. At Lord’s on Saturday, the second ODI is in line to be at full capacity as part of a government pilot.

Hussain also commented about the difficulty of acquiring a new squad as regular county games are also going on at the same time.
Additional Giles claimed with confidence for the England Cricket squad that the new Delta variant could be the reason for the outbreak at the England camp despite the high level of safety measures implemented.
Seven members of the England cricket team, four being backroom staff and three being England players tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of England’s limited over series with Pakistan. Former England captain Nasser Hussain spoke after the announcement was made by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and said that it may create chaos at the ECB towers.
Hussain also commented about the difficulty of acquiring a new squad as regular county games are also going on at this time.
The PCB released a statement saying it had been in close contact with the ECB over “concerns about the health and safety of its players” after being informed of developments on Monday evening.
“The PCB is satisfied by the assurances and guarantees provided by the ECB on behalf of its medical panel, and feels comfortable with the existing protocols that have been put in place to ensure all the Pakistan players and player support staff remain safe and secure throughout the duration of the series,” the board said.
“The PCB has also been in touch with its team management and has advised them to exercise extra caution while in the hotel or at the match venue.”
The England vs Pakistan series will kick off on July 8th.
