On November 26, Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, unveiled their list of player retentions and releases ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction scheduled for December 19. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team bid farewell to 11 players, including Mohammed Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen, Raghav Goyal, Jofra Archer, Tristan Stubbs, Duan Jansen, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, Chris Jordan, and Sandeep Warrier.
In the 2023 season, Mumbai Indians secured the fourth spot on the points table, winning eight out of 14 matches and accumulating 16 points. Despite reaching Qualifier Two, their journey concluded with a 62-run defeat against Gujarat Titans.
Leading up to the retention deadline, speculations circulated about Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians, fueled by reports of a substantial investment of INR 15 crores and an undisclosed transfer fee. However, these reports were debunked as the all-rounder has been retained by Gujarat Titans.

Mumbai Indians’ IPL journey began in 2010 when they reached the finals under Sachin Tendulkar’s leadership. A pivotal moment came in 2013 when Rohit Sharma assumed captaincy, leading the team to its first title in the same year. Since then, Mumbai Indians have dominated the league, becoming the most successful franchise. They clinched three titles by 2017 and added two more in 2019 and 2020, becoming the first team to secure five IPL championships, a feat matched only by CSK.
The retained players for IPL 2024 include Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, Cameron Green, Tim David, Arjun Tendulkar, Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal, Vishnu Vinod, Romario Shepherd, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, and Piyush Chawla. It is noteworthy that Romario Shepherd was acquired through a trade with Lucknow Super Giants.
The released players list for IPL 2024 comprises Mohammad Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen, Raghav Goyal, Jofra Archer, Tristan Stubbs, Duan Jansen, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, Chris Jordan, and Sandeep Warrier.Gujarat Titans (GT) have a remaining purse of INR 13.8 Crore for 2024.
