Adam Zampa claimed crucial wickets of Jos Buttler and Phil Salt as Australia cruised to a clinical 36-run victory over England, putting them two wins from two in Group B. The Australians put in a collective effort with the bat and ball to completely outclass England, who were unable to match their intensity. Australia scored a mammoth 201/7 in 20 overs, with nearly every batter contributing to the team’s 200-run total. Chris Jordan was England’s standout bowler, taking two wickets.

Aussies Domination in the Powerplay

Australian openers David Warner & Travis Head got off to a strong start in their current group-stage match against England, going all guns blazing on the powerplay. During the powerplay, Warner hammered the English bowlers by scoring 39 runs off only 16 balls. Warner targeted Mark Wood in his fourth over of the match, blasting him for three sixes and a four.

Allround performance from the Aussies

Earlier, a blistering opening stand from Travis Head and David Warner, followed by solid middle-order batting from Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh, propelled Australia to 201/7 after England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first. With the win, Australia now leads Group B with four points after winning both of their games, while England is fourth with one point after a washout against Scotland earlier in the tournament.

England fails to ignite

England’s sloppiness resulted in a penalty for a slow over-rate, and they lost a boundary fielder in the final over. Jordan bowled his best over yet, capturing his 100th T20 wicket and recording a runout. Bairstow was slow to make ground on a potential catch, Jordan bowled too many wides, and Buttler appeared dissatisfied with the ground fielding standards.

Mystery Zampa is back in form

The English openers, Buttler and Salt, were good at the start. The English managed to stay in the game thanks to a strong powerplay. But Zampa entered the bowl and changed the course of the game. The leggie removed Salt with a slider before inducing a false stroke from Buttler shortly thereafter. The Australian pacers bowled a lot of cutters, while their spinners bowled through probing channels. The choke was on, and the English batters succumbed to pressure as they continued to lose wickets. The required rate grew out of control, which led to their demise.

Final Blow of the match

When the miserly Cummins ended Moeen’s onslaught with a hack to the leg well caught staring into the sun by Warner, it was all over except for the shouting. A late Livingstone six dented Zampa’s figures, and Brook, who had struggled to get going, hit two consolation boundaries in the final over to avoid a total net run rate disaster; however, the victory’s final margin summed up the gap between the two teams.

Can England make it to the Super 8?

England has dug a hole for themselves, and their chances of staying awake in the tournament are hung by a thread. England will most likely need to win their final two games against Oman and Namibia to avoid embarrassment by failing to advance to the Super 8, and even that may only set up a scenario in which they rely on net run rate to beat Scotland.

Adam Zampa: Player of the Match

Marsh handed the ball to Adam Zampa as soon as the fielding restrictions were lifted, and with some crafty bowling, he took a couple of quick wickets in a matter of a few deliveries. Adam Zampa made an immediate impact when he started his spell, bowling Salt (37) with the first ball to leave England 73-1 in the eighth over and taking Buttler’s wicket in his next over for 42.

“I did my best, but it popped out (on the dropped catch). We have played them many times, we know how they play. We knew there was a longer side and we wanted them to access that area. It’s difficult to understand the wickets here in the West Indies, I bowled a few balls and realised that it stayed low, so I needed to bowl on a spot, you never know what’ll happen. I wanted them to come at me and look to attack. We have great depth in our bowling attack, some bowlers bowl to the longer boundary and we used a lot of variations.”
