KL Rahul didn’t impress many with his captaincy abilities while leading the national side for the first time. They lost all four matches he supervised, including a Test and three ODIs.

Rahul Dravid, Team India’s head coach, backed the youngster to be a good leader in the future, despite the lackluster performance. As a matter of fact, the former Indian cricketer cited poor execution as the cause of the result. When asked how he felt about KL as a leader, having lost all four games he led on tour, Dravid responded, “He did a good job. It is not easy to end on the wrong side of the result.”

The game was a good eye-opener, but we haven’t played much ODI cricket lately. We last played England in March (after that, we played against Lanka with Dravid as the coach). We will be playing more white-ball cricket before the World Cup next year.David also expressed hope for a better outcome when the regular guys return to the setup. “The guys who play at 6, 7, and 8 weren’t available, so the side will be a bit different when they return,” he said. As a new captain, he did a very good job, and he will continuously improve as he captains, he added.

Despite a good start in the opening Test at Centurion, which they won comprehensively, India lost both the Test and ODI series on what turned out to be a disastrous tour of South Africa.
