A match between the previous year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders kicks off the upcoming Indian Premier League on March 26. Prior to the tournament, there was a mega auction in which all the franchises changed some of their squads, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) were among the franchises with a strong set of players.

Within the span of two days, the PBKS acquired players like Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Chahar. Opening batsman Mayank Agarwal and bowler Arshdeep Singh were already retained for the upcoming edition. Former Indian cricketer and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, however, remains skeptical that Punjab Kings will end their title drought in 2019. There are only three franchises that have yet to win an IPL title.

There are some teams that have yet to win the title, including the Punjab Kings. In this case, I do not believe they have built a team with an impact player. However, this could also be advantageous. In the event of very low expectations, there is very little pressure”, stated Gavaskar at a recent press conference. ”The players are more creative when there is less pressure. Considering that, I believe Punjab Kings will surprise a few. T20 is a format where you must have a winning streak,” Gavaskar added.

On March 27, Punjab Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore.
