The Indian Women’s Team have reached Sri Lanka for their white ball series. This is there first international encounter after the World Cup. With Mithali Raj retiring, the Indian Women’s Team will be in a mini transition playing under a new captain. While Harmanpreet Kaur is taking up full-time ODI captaincy for the first time, the role of not new to her. She has already been leading the T20 side.

Smriti Mandhana takes over as vice-captain while Jemimah Rodriguez comes back in the squad. A surprising exclusion though if they of Jhulan Goswami. With India looking for the future her exclusion could be a message from the Indian selectors.

Radha Yadav and Harleen Deol are other inclusions that look interesting. Both were good in the recent Women’s T20 challenge, helping them get into the Indian Women’s Team.

The Indian Women’s Team has 6 games ahead of them from 23rd to July 7th. There are three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled. With a lot of spin depth in the side, both teams are expected to encounter some Turners through this series. With Sri Lanka strong against spin, both sides are expected to be really competitive throughout the series.

For Sri Lanka, they missed out on the World Cup, and are in the middle of a transition phase of their own. They are looking to bring themselves back into the international circuit and a good showing against India could help them prove their mettle.

For both sides the series is an opportunity to test their youngsters. With a string of World Cups coming up, the upcoming games will help find some new talen. Doing so can allow both teams to identify a large set of players from which they will have options based on conditions going forward. The first T20I begins on 23rd June.
