After what people may call a tough match, Sunrisers Hyderabad had their first victory in TATA Indian Premier League 2022 after going up against Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets on 9th April at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Chasing a target of 155, Hyderabad openers Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma were off to steady head start with batting. Although SRH scored only 37 in the first six overs, the openers maintained their stand. Skipper Williamson brought about the fifty partnership for the opening wicket with a solid six against Moeen Ali. The pair added a four and a six each to the total and kept scoring on the runs as the team reached a 69-0 at the half-way stage. Sharma stepped up his half century during the 12th over which gave them 14 runs after Sharma hit a four and six against Jordan.
Yet SRH lost the main wicket of skipper Williamson, who got caught up inside the circle- Sharma kept up his attack with marvelous shots. 13 runs were yielded off the 15th over, bowled by Mukesh Choudhary while Hyderabad required 34 in the final five overs. Tripathi managed a six and three fours against Jordan as SRH nailed 19 runs off the 17th over as the fifty partnership was carried to the second wicket. Prior to this CSK, who were batting first made Maheesh Theekshana replace Dwaine Pretorious in the eleven. The teams’ openers- Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa confidently started off by striking three boundaries and Chennai reached 25/0 after three overs. After Uthappa was caught by Markram, Washington Sundar gave SRH their first breakthrough.
Sunrisers Hyderabad peddled their second wicket following Natarajan cleaning the stumps of Ruturaj and CSK were 41-2 after 6 overs. 10 runs were conceded in the following two overs and SRH were leading with the ball. Moeen Ali and Rayudu scored a four each in the 9th over to release some pressure and CSK were 68-2 at the halfway mark prior to Rayudu hitting consecutive fours against Jansen. The team recovered quite well after the former switched with Moeen Ali. CSK were 97/2 at the end of the fifty partnership which was up for a third wicket. SRH attacked back by scalping two more wickets.
Markam’s bowling put Moeen Ali in the deep off, while Shivam Dube was restricted by short third-man as Natarajan picked his second wicket of the innings. Jadeja was put off in the last over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar but CSK did well with a total score of 154-7 in the first innings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad finished marvellously with a 189-9 where Abhishek Sharma was at 75 and Rahul Tripathi with 39 and they beat Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets.
The game had us all raging as the two teams kept attacking and losing and then coming back. A good match showcased by both teams left the audience wanting for more! Well, we need to keep our eyes out for what our teams would bring to the tables in the next match of IPL 2022.
