During Sunriser Hyderabad’s match against Gujarat Titans last day at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, all-rounder Washington Sundar suffered a split webbing in his bowling hand as per captain Tom Moody.

A consistent bowling effort followed by skipper Kane Williamson’s half century helped SRH beat Gujarat by 8 solid wickets on Monday.

Despite their win, Washington capitulated with the injury which left him unable to bowl his full quota of overs. He had three wicket-less overs out of which, two were in the powerplay and went for just 14 runs.

Laid low by injury and illness over the last few months, Washington had missed India’s three T20’s against West Indies in February after he suffered a hamstring while fielding during the third ODI in Ahmedabad. He also missed the second half of IPL in UAE last year due to hurting his finger.

In the match on the last day he needed medical attention after hitting the ground right after a six. It is speculated that he might be unable to play in the next few matches. Being the lone specialist tweaker for Sunrisers so far it is going to be hard for the team to cope without him.

“That is something we may need to look at to make sure we get the maximum out of him with the bat because obviously, he is a very valuable player for us.” captain Tom Moody said after their win.

Audience as well as the team are hoping Sundar can return to the game soon as it of course wouldn’t be the same without him. SunRisers Hyderabad will take on Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Till then all we can do is wait and hope for his recovery.
