It is evident that a cricket tournament like the IPL is known for attracting an enormous amount of money to its hat. As per some recent numbers, IPL’s brand value touched a colossal level of $8.4 Billion in the 2022 edition, compared to $4.7 Billion in the 2021 edition. And several aspects can be given credit to the exceptional growth of such a tournament, be it from the loyal Indian fans or the competitive franchises. Interestingly, these franchises provide a crucial chunk of money for the tournament’s valuation. As per the Forbes list, here’s a list of the top 10 franchises that are the most valuable in terms of their monetary aspect. 

Mumbai Indians- $1.3 Billon

Mumbai Indians, happens to be the most valuable team in terms of monetary aspects. The most successful team in IPL history, Mumbai Indians, happens to be the most valuable team in terms of monetary aspects. The Rohit Sharma-led arsenal is backed by the Reliance Industries Limited Chairman, Mr. Mukesh Ambani. It generates a revenue of $33 Billion, with an operating income of $5.5 Million.

Chennai Super Kings- $1.15 Billion

Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful teams in the tournament, thanks to the composed caliber of the wicket-keeper batter, MS Dhoni. It is the second most valuable team, with a colossal $1.15 Billion. It has a revenue of $41.2 Million and an operating income of $14.8 Million. The team is owned by N Srinivasan, the chairman of India Cements.

Kolkata Knight Riders- $1.1 Billion

The two-time champions generate a revenue of $41.2 Million, with an operating income of $14.1 Million. Well, it’s not just that this team is famous for its impeccable arsenal, but is predominant for having the Badshah of Bollywood as its owner, Mr. Shah Rukh Khan. Lucknow Super Giants- $1.075 Billion

Owned by the Goenka group, Lucknow Super Giants had a fine start in the IPL by qualifying for the playoffs under KL Rahul’s captaincy. Also, as it’s the team’s first-ever edition, there are no evident numbers released about the team’s Net revenue & operating income.   

Delhi Capitals- $1.035 Billion

Previously named Delhi Daredevils, Delhi Capitals is one of the most entertaining teams in the tournament. Jointly owned by GMR & JSW, the Capitals generate a revenue of $35.4 Million and an operating income of $8.3 Million. 

Royal Challengers Bangalore- $1.025 Billion

Owned by the United Breweries, Royal Challengers Bangalore is predominant for its entertaining cricketing display and loyal fanbase. The team generates revenue of $36.4 Million, with an operating income of $9.7 Million. 

Rajasthan Royals- $1 Billion

The inaugural champions, Rajasthan Royals, has a valuation of $1 Billion, with an operating income of $6.6 Million. The team generates revenue of $31.7 Million, and Emerging Media Ltd is the franchise’s owner. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad- $970 Million

Owned by Sun TV Network, the 2016 Champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad, generates revenue of $31.8 Million, with an operating income of $9.8 Million. 

Punjab Kings- $925 Million

Though we might see them being the highlights in the auctions, Punjab Kings hasn’t yet been able to win a title yet. But there are chances for them to win the coming edition, thanks to their current squad post the auction heat. Owned by Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, and Mohit Burman, it generates a revenue of $31.2 Million, with an operating income of $9.8 Million. 

Gujarat Titans- $850 Million

Gujarat Titans, the defending champions, have got a dream of a start in their first-ever IPL tournament. Owned by CVC Capital Partners, it has a total revenue of $850 Million, which is relatively high for a new franchise.
