It has finally been announced that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for media rights to the 2023-2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It will begin on 12th June with the IPL media rights e-auction.

It is my pleasure to announce that BCCI has issued the tender document for IPL media rights for seasons 2023-27. As Tata IPL expands to two new teams, more matches, more engagement, and more venues, we aim to take it to greater heights. Buyers can now purchase the tender document, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced in a statement. The media rights will be e-auctioned for the first time ever in the history of the IPL. On June 12th, 2022, the e-auction will begin. India Cricket will benefit immensely from this process not only in terms of revenue maximization, he said, but also in terms of value maximization. Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry members are eagerly awaiting the big-bang IPL media rights auction. There is expected to be record amounts of money pledged for IPL media rights in the upcoming e-auction. Due to the growth in the consumption of sports content on digital platforms, experts predict the value of IPL digital rights will see a massive increase. Media executives believe, however, that television rights will continue to command the lion’s share of media rights value since television offers the greatest potential for monetization.

Despite a memorable 2008 inaugural season, the Indian Premier League is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.  The value of the IPL media rights nearly doubled in 2017 when Star paid Rs 16,347.5 crore for the global deal. Sony, however, paid Rs 8200 crore for TV rights in the Indian subcontinent.
