Ravi Shastri: Gujarat Titans star is "one of the most talented players in world cricket"

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri praised young batter Shubman Gill during the Gujarat Titans’ win over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. In GT’s first match of the season, the 22-year-old ran out for a duck, but he came back with fine innings against DC to help his team post 170/6 against a good bowling attack. Ravi Shastri described him as a “pure talent” and called him one of the world’s best cricketers.

”He is one of the most talented in this country and in the world. I really like him. He has got the potential,” Shastri said during a recent press conference. He makes it look easy for him once he gets going. The punch is there, he has the time and he has the power to clear the ground,” he added. ”Clearly, he was made for this game format. He talked about the rotation of the strike when he selected his shot. There were very few dot balls today, reducing his stress. Besides, he will put away the bad balls,” Shastri concluded.

Gill faced only six dots in 46 balls. He was therefore playing his highest-ever T20 match. DC could only muster 157/9 in their chase after Lockie Ferguson took four wickets, including Rishabh Pant. Mohammed Shami struck twice in the 18th over to help the Titans crush DC.
