The World Cup main draw begins with an age old rivalry. The Trans-tasman rivalry starts the tournament as New Zealand look to extract revenge for their loss to Australia in the Finals of the last World Cup. Both teams are coming in with a lot of injury concerns. Daryl Mitchell, a key player for New Zealand is out of the opener. For Australia, Josh Inglis is out of the tournament, allowing Cameron Green to come in.
Played- 15 | Australia – 10 | New Zealand – 5 | No Result- 0 | Tie- 0
Date: 22nd October 2022
Time: 12:30 AM IST
Venue: Sydney Cricket Ground
The forecast does not look promising anywhere through Australia for the first week. A lot of rain is expected and it will be a really big effort to get a full fixture in.
The Sydney track is a little drier and should help the spinners. Batting should be easy though and chasing will be a better option.
David Warner, Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood
Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman/ Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee
After a fairytale entry to the side, Tim David gears up for his first World Cup. He is seen as a key finisher in the side and was selected specifically for this tournament given what he offers. A good tournament here will take his career a long way as he comes in as the X-factor in the Australian line-up.
Trent Boult does not have a central contract anymore but still remains New Zealand’s most important fast bowler. He is likely to take the new-ball tomorrow as always and New Zealand will be hoping dearly that he gives New Zealand a good start with the ball.

Australia are never a convincing side in T20 Cricket. They came into the last World Cup really poorly as well, but managed to walk away with the trophy, showing their ability in big games. New Zealand as well tend to struggle against Australia, leaving the hosts with a huge chance of starting with a win.
